Even BJP’s Own Legislators had Participated in Sikh Genocide 1984 Motion Passed by Delhi Assembly on 30 June 2015

New Delhi: Indian government led by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) may be raising objections to the Sikh Genocide 1984 motion passed by the Ontario provincial parliament on April 6, 2017, but BJP’s own legislators in Delhi had participated in a similar motion passed by the Delhi State Assembly on June 30, 1984.

The motion was moved by then AAP MLA from Rajouri Garden- Jarnail Singh under 107 rule. The motion, a copy of which is available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), was duly debated in the state assembly before being unanimously passed. This motion specifically recognised the fact of Sikh “GENOCIDE” of 1984.

Former MLA Jarnail Singh who had moved the motion told SSN over phone that: “The motion was moved in the state assembly on June 30, 2015. I put forth the motion and made a detailed statement in the house. Two other MLAs joined the discussion and presented their views in support of the motion. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal responded to the motion on behalf of the state government. After this, the motion was unanimously passed by the state assembly.”

“It is recorded fact that even BJP MLAs had also voted in favour of the Sikh Genocide 1984 motion on that day. It was passed unanimously” he added.

Jarnail Singh strongly condemned India’s Defence Minister Arun Jaitley who reportedly raised objections against Sikh Genocide 1984 motion passed by Ontario provincial parliament. (SEE: )

“Instead of raising objections against recognition to the fact of Sikh Genocide 1984, Arun Jaitley should tell the world what their government s doing to give justice to the Sikhs? Why there is delay delaying on the part of their government and the SIT?”, asked Jarnail Singh.

While referring to GoI’s objections against Sikh Genocide 1984 motion passed by Ontario parliament, Jarnail Singh said: “the stand of Govt. of India has hurt Sikhs beyond imagination and there is deep anguish amongst the Sikhs who are feeling betrayed again”.

Notably, two of BJP’s senior leaders, including Central Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh have also publicly admitted that the events of November 1984 were in fact ‘genocide’.

Notably, the Sikh Genocide 1984 motion passed by the Delhi state legislature on June 30, 2015 is accessible through the official website of the Delhi State Assembly. The copy of the motion was last accessed by SSN from Delhi assembly’s website on April 19, 2017 at 17:05 (IST) at the time of publishing this news.

MORE INFORMATION:

Earlier Admissions from Indian Politicians/Ministers of GoI that November 1984 massacres were in fact ‘Genocide’:

Interestingly, two Indian politicians- who are presently holding posts of ministers in the Government of India (GoI), have themselves acknowledged that 1984 violance against the Sikhs was in fact a “genocide”.

Rajnath Singh, who presently holds the Ministry of Home Affairs in the GoI had publicly pronounced the November 1984 massacres as a ‘genocide’ at a function on December 26, 2014 to distribute cheques of compensation in Tilak Vihar, where many of the victims of the massacres continue to reside.

On another occasion BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on January 28, 2014 had admitted that “1984 was a genocide and pre-planned, it was executed by the ruling government”. Javadekar is now the union minister for Human Resources Development.

But it must be noted here that despite aforesaid confessions by GoI minister Rajnath Singh and spokesperson of India’s ruling party (BJP) Parkash Javedkar, the Indian state does not admit to the fact of Sikh Genocide 1984 and it has indulged in to ‘denial’ tactics.

Eighth Stage of Genocide – Denial:

Gregory H. Stanton, Research Professor in Genocide Studies and Prevention at the George Mason University in Fairfax County, Virginia identifies “denial” as eighth stage of genocide, which he says can continues for indefinite period of time.

In his research titled “Eight Stages of Genocide”, Stanton says that after the genocidal massacres are over, those who commit the crime of genocide indulge into denial that this ‘crime of all crimes’ did not took place.

Indian State’s reaction against Sikh Genocide 1984 motion adopted by Ontario parliament and outcry by Canada Indian Foundation against this motion should be seen as a part of this eighth stage of Sikh Genocide.

International recognition for Sikh Genocide 1984:

With Ontario becoming the first province of Canada to recognise the fact of Sikh genocide 1984, the campaign to get international recognition for the Sikh Genocide 1984 has registered considerable success.

Notably, more than a dozen City Councils in United States of America have also issued official proclamations extending official recognition to the fact of Sikh Genocide 1984.
