Chandigarh: Punjab opposition leader and AAP MLA from Dakha H.S. Phoolka today objected to the appointment of Ajay Vir Jakhar as Chairman of Punjab State Farmers Commission. H. S. Phoolka said that it was highly deplorable that an eminent agriculture expert and a scientist par excellence, G.S. Kalkat, has been replaced with a political person, Ajay Vir Jakhar, for a post which require high technical expertise.

H. S. Phoolka said that a Punjab Farmers commission has a very important role to play in an agrarian state like a Punjab which is witnessing negative growth in agriculture and where farmers need to be directed and motivated to come out of wheat- paddy crop rotation and to diversify to other crops. There are many world famous agriculture scientists in Punjab whose assistance can be sought for the post which require intensive and deep knowledge about agricultural subject, Phoolka said.
