Chandigarh: Speaking on the statement of Punjab Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh in which he has proposed hike in the power tariff in the state as per recommendation of Punjab State Electricity Regularity Commission (PSERC), Leader of Opposition and Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader HS Phoolka termed it as “betrayal” by Congress party.

“Congress in its poll manifesto had promised to lower the electricity tariff in Punjab, but after coming to power it has started taking “U-turn” on all its promises”, H S Phoolka said in press release issued from the party office. Congress promised to adopt acute ‘austerity’ measures to bring state out of financial mess, but now appointed an ‘army’ of advisors with the rank of ministers to burden the state ex-chequer.
On the issue of proposed power tariff hike, while siting the example of power tariff in Delhi H S Phoolka said “when Delhi Government can bring down the electricity tariff at its half, why can’t Punjab Government do it?.
“Perhaps it is not possible for Congress, as honesty, strong political will and transparency is needed to lower the power tariff, which the ruling party lacks”, he further added to his statement.
The leader of opposition claimed that his party was committed to fight tooth & nail for the people of Punjab, both inside and outside the assembly and would launch a state-wide protest, in case of any hike in the power tariff by the state government.
