Rajasthan Police Assisted The Mob On Where to Beat Us, Says Sikh Victims

Ajmer: Two days after a video showing Sikhs being manhandled and thrashed by a mob in Rajasthan that when viral on the internet and was widely shared on the social platform, one of the victim seen in the video while interacting with the media said that  they were beaten up in the presence of two police constables, who told the people where to hit them, a charge police denied.

“The constables told the mob not to hit us on our heads and neck,” said one of the victim named Harpal Singh while speaking with a local print.

The four Sikh men, sewadars of a gurudwara in Khairthal in Alwar, are Niramal Singh, Malkeet Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Harpal Singh.

As reported by the media the victims had gone to Chainpura village in Ajmer on April 24 to collect donations when the mob beat them up alleging that they molested their women. Police found the allegations to be false.

 “We were beaten up mercilessly by the crowd in presence of two police constables,” Harpal Singh  “I can never forget the attack.” he further said.

Yet another victim Kuldeep Singh with reference to his statement published in Hindustan Times (HT) said that he heard the constables telling the mob that they were in no hurry to take them to the police station. “The constables after talking to some locals handed us over to the crowd and asked them to teach us a lesson for life,” he further stated.

Laxman Ram, station house officer of Nasirabad Sadar police station, deliberately denied the victims’ charges. “Maybe, people thrashed them before we reached them,” he claimed, denying the victims’ allegation that policemen were present during the attack, said the media source.

It is notable here that there is a consistent denial from the Rajasthan police on its involvement in this issue  despite the fact that a police constable can be clearly seen in the video assisting the mob while the victims were being thrashed.

The Rajasthan State Commission for Minorities sought on Thursday a factual report on the attack shown in the video.
