1.32K Punjabi in Australia; Sikhs count at 1.25K: Reveals ABS Data

Melbourne: As per 2016 Census data released by Australian Bureau of Statistics, there are 1,32,496 Punjabis living in Australia. The count of Punjabis in Victoria is 56,171 and New South Wales (NSW) is 33,435.

There are total 1,25,901 Sikhs living in Australia, the ABS data reveals. Sikhs are 0.5% of total population in Australia.

Those who mentioned Hinduism as their religion during Australian census 2016 counts at 440.3K (1.9% of total population). Some media reports have noted that there is 500% increase in Hindu population in Australia over last 25 years. The numbers of Buddhism and Islam are 563.7K (2.4%) and 604.2 (2.6%) respectively. There are total 12,201.6K Christians (52.1% of total population) in Australia.
