Pro-freedom Sikh groups paid tributes to Khalistani icon Dr Gurmeet Singh Aulakh

Hoshiarpur: Pro-freedom groups paid their respect and tribute to the staunch protagonist of Khalistan struggle, Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Fairfax, VA in USA.

Dr Aulakh breathed his last on June 21 at his home in USA after a prolonged battle with colon cancer.

A large numbers of Sikh representatives from Sikh Youth of America, Sikhs for Justice, Khalistan Affairs Centre, Dal Khalsa USA, Akali Dal (Amritsar) participated in the Antim Ardas and paid homage to the departed soul. Speakers eulogized his steadfastness and commitment towards the cause. They expressed their condolences with Dr Aulakh’s wife Charanjit Kaur, daughter Artinder Kaur, sons Urminder Singh Aulakh and Bikramjit Singh Aulakh.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh informed the media that their party’s senior leader Harchranjit Singh Dhami from Punjab attended the bhog ceremony. While addressing the gathering, Dhami termed Dr Aulakh a dedicated Sikh Nationalist leader whose contribution for the cause of Sikh independence was worth appreciation and would always be remembered.

It is pertinent to mention that Dr Aulakh was born at Lyallpur now Faislabad (Pakistan) in 1938. He migrated to USA in 1969 and did his Phd in molecular genetics. Once a research scientist at Boston Medical School, Dr. Aulakh was known for raising the issues of Sikh Human Rights and the community’s struggle for freedom on an international fora’s. He had working relations with US elected Government officials. He was nominated President of ‘Council of Khalistan’ on October 1, 1987 by the five-member Panthic Committee.
