Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Gobind Singh Longowal is set to replace Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar as the president of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC). Kirpal Singh Badungar was made SGPC chief in November last year after SAD (B) dropped out Avtar Singh Makkar.

The SAD (B) today fielded Gobind Singh Longowal as its candidate while the Panthic morcha led by former SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur fielded Amrik Singh Shahpur for the post.
Though the voting for the post was underway at the time of writing this report, but Gobind Singh Longowal is set to be the next SGPC chief as the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has large majority in the SGPC general house.
