Chandigarh: Sri Guru Kendri Singh Sabha (Chandigarh) has criticised Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh for launching an offensive against the Sikhs on false accusations that ‘Sikh militants’ were behind the recent killings of Hindu leaders. Amarinder had been alleging that Sikh leaders in Canada were “instrumental behind such violent incidents.
“Unfortunately, the Chief Minister attributed unsubstantiated motive against the Sikhs immediately after the killing of a Hindu leader in Amritsar, when his Government’s senior Punjab police officer has now revealed that Vipan Kumar Sharma was shot dead by the gangsters out of rivalry”, said Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha, a representative body of gurdwara managements, in a statement here today.
By raising the bogey of militancy, it seems the Chief Minister is out to appease the Hindutva forces and is more interested in playing the RSS brand-politics of ‘polarising the society’ for electoral gains, he added.
Without waiting for police investigation reports he hurriedly mounted onto the Indira Gandhi-type propaganda and went to the extent of raising an accusing finger on Canadian Defence Minister Harjeet Singh Sajjan and New Democratic Party (NDP) Chief Jagmeet Singh holding the Sikh diaspora responsible for whatever happening in Punjab.
The Chief Minister has virtually surpassed the Hindutva forces in mouthing ultra-nationalism, crossing all limits of political niceties and fair play. Such concoction is nothing but perpetuation of a sheer propaganda against the Sikhs. Such loose and irresponsible statements coming from a person heading the Punjab government is all the more reprehensive and troublesome, the statement added.
