Sikh Center Flushing, New York To Observe The Martyrdom Of Saka Nakodar Shaheeds

New York: The Doaba Sikh Society and Sikh sangat of New York will be organizing Saka Nakodar Martyrs 32nd anniversary on Sunday 4th February 2018 at Gurudwara Sikh Center of FlushingNew York.

It is pertinent to note that on the 4th February 1986, Sikh Student Federation (SSF) members and local Sikh community members gathered in city of Nakodar to collect the Saroops of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which were desecrated and burnt in Shri Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara, Nakodar on 2nd February 1986.  The police opened fire at this unarmed and peaceful gathering of Sikhs.

Shaheeds of Saka Nakodar.

This unprovoked and unjustified violence by the police killed Bhai Ravinder Singh Littran, Bhai Baldhir Singh Ramgarh and Bhai Jhilman Singh Rajowal-Gorcian.

The fourth victim, Bhai Harminder Singh Chaluper, was executed at point-blank range by the police inspector Jaskirat Chahal after being challenged by name while in a shelter.  In the report written by, the International Human Rights Organization committee, Mr. Chaluper’s assassination is described as plain, unprovoked murder. Despite the identification of the victims, the administration refused to hand over their bodies to their relatives at that time.

Based on the statements made by the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Surjit Singh Rajput, three of the victims were identified the evening before cremation. Two of the post-mortem reports showed the names of the victims, which is a clear proof that administration lied about their identification.

The pictures of all 4 Saka Nakodar martyrs will be installed in the langar hall of Gurdwara Sahib that day.  Dr Amarjit Singh from Washington DC and Martyr Ravinder Singh Littran’s younger brother, Dr. Harinder Singh from Stanford University will be attending this conference.

There had been a strong demand to release the Judicial Inquiry which was ordered by the Punjab Government on 5 February 1986 while current CM of Punjab was an Agriculture Minister Punjab.

The judicial inquiry was regarding the three issues, the desecration of five Shri Guru Granth Sahib Saroops at Shri Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara in Guru Nanak Pura Mohalla, on 2 February 1986, the police firing on Sherpur bridge which killed 4 sikh young-men on 4 February 1986 and the cremation of dead bodies of four sikh young-men against the Punjab government orders.

Justice Gurnam Singh, a retired high court judge, completed his inquiry on 29 March 1987 and yet it was never made public.
