Gujarat Files Author Rana Ayyub Gets Most Resilient Global Journalist Award in Hague

Hague: Investigative journalist and author of Gujarat Files Rana Ayyub is awarded Most Resilient Global Journalist at the Peace Palace in Hague by Free Press Unlimited.

Rana Ayyub investigated the extrajudicial killings of Muslim youth and this sent the first serving home minister of India behind bars.

[English Translation: Without a free press there can be no free society. This is an extra stop on International Day against the impunity of crimes against journalists. Just #FPLive18 presented to the Indian journalist the most Resilient journalist Award @RanaAyyub].

Rana Ayyub went undercover for eight months, continuing her research into the involvement of top ministers in deadly violence against Muslim minority.

When publishers rejected her work, she self-published her book. The book sold 3 lakh copies in 17 languages but also brought about intense harassment, both online and offline. She received death threats and her phone number and address were made public.

While disclosing her nomination for the award Free Press Unlimited said: “Rana Ayyub refuses to leave India and continues working as a journalist, giving the less privileged and minorities in India a voice and being a role model for women”.

Rana Ayyub has dedicated the award to the extraordinary nominees and brave journalists everywhere.
