Chandigarh: Punjab police IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal was arrested today by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe Saka Behbal Kalan in which two Sikhs were killed by Punjab police on 14 October 2015.
The special investigation team set up to probe the case had last month arrested former Moga district police chief SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma.
On Monday, SIT member Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh confirmed that inspector general of police, Paramraj Singh Umranangal, had also been arrested from Chandigarh. He said that Paramraj Singh Umranangal will be presented before a Faridkot court tomorrow where SIT will seek his police remand.
He said that there was enough evidence on record against Paramraj Singh Ummranangal. He said that Ummranangal was posted in Ludhiana at that time but he had went to places in Faridkot district where Sikh sangat was staging sit-in demonstrations demanding arrest of those behind the incidents of beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib. Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh said that Paramraj Singh Ummranangal had instigated the situation.
Notably, three other prime accused including SP Bikramjit Singh, inspector Pardeep Singh and Amarjit Singh Kular (all cops) have been granted anticipatory bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
