Chandigarh: The Indian government on Monday (Feb. 11) said its’ home ministry has designated Dera Baba Nanak land checkpost in Gurdaspur as an authorised immigration point to facilitate yatris passing through the proposed Kartarpur corridor in West Punjab (Pakistan).
In an official notification, the Union ministry of home affairs said: “In pursuance of sub-rule (b) of 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, the government designates Dera Baba Nanak land checkpost in Gurdaspur as an authorised immigration checkpoint for entry into/exit from India with valid documents for all classes of passengers.”
According to the home ministry, the checkpost is expected to facilitate devotees.
In November last year Indian and Pakistani governments had laid foundation stones for building a corridor between Dera Baba Nanak (East Punjab) and Kartarpur Sahib (West Punjab) to allow Sikh devotees from East Punjab and Indian subcontinent to visit Kartarpur Sahib.
