Srinagar/Chandigarh: In a major attack in past three years, at least 44 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. According to reports a major blast took place when a car, filled with explosives, rammed into a bus carrying CRPF men on Thursday (Feb. 14) afternoon.
Media reports say that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has taken responsibility of the attack. A report in the Indian Express (IE) notes that in a telephonic call to a local news agency someone from JeM identified the attacker as Adil Ahmed, a resident of Gundi Bagh in Pulwama.
The targeted bus was part of an army convoy coming from Jammu to Srinagar.
Various Indian and international leaders and politicians have condemned the attack.
After the attack the Indian government levelled allegations of extending support to outfits that launch attack in other countries.
In response Pakistan said that the attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama district was a matter of grave concern even as it strongly rejected Indian media and government’s allegations of the country’s link to the attack.
