Patiala: Marauri village of Samana town, district Patiala here on Sunday was on its heels when Dera Sira Sauda’s followers organised a ‘Naam Charcha’ (a group singing or Choir) following which a group of Sikh activists reached there to protest against it.
As reported by the media a first information report (FIR) has been registered for implicating Sikh activists for exercising their right to protest. Case was registered under section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It is stated that the stand-off is first of its kind after Amarinder Singh lead congress party came to power. It is also notable that with in two weeks of taking over state’s reins Amarinder Singh ordered state police security cover to Dera Sauda Sirsa branches throughout Punjab.
The Sikh activists reportedly entered a local school building where the program of ‘naam charcha’ was going on and started opposing the program. On the other hand some dera followers tried to use force against the Sikh activists, to avoid unnecessary confrontation the Sikhs left the venue.
Moreover, it was claimed by an English vernacular that the Sikhs also raised pro-Khalistan slogans.
Following the incidents, dera supporters held a protest at Mavi Kalan village, falling under the sadar police station, Samana, demanding arrest of the accused, media sources said.;
Additional police force was rushed from Samana to control the situation.
Senior superintendent of police S Bhupathi while talking to Hindustan times (HT) said police teams have been sent to arrest the accused. “We will not allow anyone to disturb peace and communal harmony.”
