Kurukshetra: One of the founding members and vice-chief of the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (HSGMC) Didar Singh Nalvi here on Monday reportedly floated a new political front to contest upcoming gurdwara elections in the state.
While addressing the mediapersons during a press conference Didar Singh Nalvi said the organisation, which was yet to be named, would also raise human rights and other issues of Sikhs, who were a minority community in the state.
Furthermore, he maintained that the front would remain independent from any political interference and also stay away from Assembly or Parliamentary elections. He claimed support of at least four other members of HSGMC (ad hoc) for the initiative.
Earlier, this year Jagdish Singh Jhinda chief of the HSGMC floated Janta Akali Dal (JAD) to contest gurdwara elections and Assembly or Parliamentary polls in various states.
Floating of new political front by Didar Singh Nalvi is seen by many in state’s Sikh political circle as a second attempt to ousted Jagdish Singh Jhinda faction. As earlier in April this year Jagdish Singh Jhinda was removed from the presidentship of HSGMC by Didar Singh Nalvi lead faction with the support of 28 executive members of the committee.
But in the following month Jagdish Singh Jinda got himself reinstated with the support of 32 executive members rallying behind him.
“In 2000, we had started a fight to free Haryana gurdwaras from the clutches of the SGPC that is controlled by Bada dal leaders of Punjab. By floating a political front, Jhinda had also followed in the footsteps of Akalis to maintain influence on religious and political levels,” Didar Singh Nalvi further added to his statement.
Meanwhile, Jagdish Jhinda alleged Nalvi was playing into the hands of Akali leadership to divide Sikhs of the state.
“With the majority support of the HGSMC members, JAD was floated to safeguard the interests of Sikhs in Haryana and other states. We are also fighting a legal battle to have an independent gurdwara panel. But Nalvi’s futile effort would create confusion among Sikh sangat over leadership issue,” reads a quote from the statement given by Jagdish Singhh Jhinda pusblished in The Tribune (TT).
