New Delhi: As per the media reports the Delhi High court here on Wednesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct polygraph test of witness Abhishek Verma in the 1984 Sikh genocide case.
On July 26, the court had ordered that Abhishek Verma be provided 24-hour security till he undergoes a polygraph (lie detector) test.
The court also allowed the counsel of Abhishek Verma to be present along with him when the test will be conducted, media reports said.
It is stated that the test will be conducted as per the guidelines issued by Supreme Court of India as per the guideline the test must be conducted by an independent agency (such as a hospital).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the court that the polygraph can be conducted on Abhishek Verma any day after August 8, further the court directed CBI to file a reply by August 1 that whether Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is an independent agency or not, media sources said.
Last month the HC had made the polygraph test for the accused congress leader Jagdish Tytler opional that means it was to be wholly solly his decision whether to undergo the lie detector test or not, following to which on July 6, Witness Abhishek Verma had appeared before the court and said that he is ready for polygraph test on the condition that he is provided security cover for him, wife and mother.
The case in which Abhishek Verma is a witness pertains to killing of three Sikhs–Badal Singh, Thakur Singh and Gurcharan Singh–at Gurdwara Pulbangash in North Delhi on November 1, 1984, a day after the execution of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, notes The Tribune (TT).
