Toronto: The Canadian unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) here on 31st July 2017 criticized the actions of Indian Consulate and its associates (Canada India Foundation also know as CIF) in strongest terms, and termed their activities as their interference in Canadian affairs.
“The Consulate general of India in Toronto unsuccessfully tried to influence the Brampton Carabram to rescind Punjab pavilion.The pavilion is paid by Canadian tax payers to explore diverse cultures yet the Indian Consulate couldn’t resist”, reads a statement by Canada unit of SAD Amritsar (copy available with Sikh Siyasat News).
The Indian high commissioner in Ottawa is accused by SAD (A) for his interference in the NDP leadership race as reported in Globe and Mail, is now confirmed in a news article published by Hindustan Times, where Canada India Foundation chairman Ajit Someshwar has revealed their plan as following “We are going to, during the provincial elections, single out those active anti-India campaigners and support their opponents regardless of party,” referring to the Ontario elections”.
The SAD (A) Canada’s claim was confirmed by Global Affairs via email in which purportedly reads that “It bears underlining that Canada upholds Article 41 of the VCDR, which states that without prejudice to their privileges and immunities, it is the duty of all persons enjoying such privileges and immunities to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State. They also have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that State.”
Punjab based pro-freedom political party SAD (A)’s Canada unit has also shot off a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada, Hon Justin Trudeau and the Canadian Security Intelligence Services (CSIS) to launch an investigation.
We demand expulsion of the High Commissioner of India Mr. Vikas Swarup and Consulate General of India in Toronto Ambassador Dinesh Bhatia, who violated the privileges and immunities given to them by our country under Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations” reads the statement of Sukhminder Singh Hansra, President of Akali Dal Amritsar Canada.
It is further hinted by SAD (A) that it may approach Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to investigate the role of CIF, its ties to INDIA since now the foundation has announced their plans to influence the Canadian politics with money and manpower added Sukhminder Singh Hansra adds.
