Chandigarh: Countering the selective blockade of the website sikhsiyasat.net in Punjab and India, the Sikh Siyasat management has filed complaints to 5 Internet Service providers who are illegally and unlawfully blocking the site. Throughout Punjab and India, sikhsiyasat.net is not accessible to users who use BSNL FTTH, BSNL Cellular, Jio 4G & Jio Fibre, Airtel and Connect Broadband as their networks.
The complaint letters sent by email all the respective companies asks them that, “If any governmental authority has sent any order/direction/circular/notice directing to block the access to the URL sikhsiyasat.net, then that should be immediately communicated to me so that corrective action can be taken.”
The complaint letters call the step by the companies illegal and unlawful. It seeks “the authority under the IT Act or any other applicable law under which you have taken such action.” It further adds that a response must be given within 72 hours, failing which “we will be constrained to take legal action.”
‘Sikhsiyasat.net’ shows blocked in parts of Punjab and India since 6 June 2020. The site is working in all other countries. No notice was served by any governmental authority or the ISPs. In October 2015, when the government of Punjab had concerns about the content of the website and they had complained against the site, a notice was received and the Sikh Siyasat team had personally responded to the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. Satisfied with the response, no step was taken against the site.
“Should we not get a reply within the reasonable time of 72 hours, we will initiate legal proceedings against the erring companies,” said SSN editor Parmjeet Singh.
Speaking to the media, Sikh Siyasat News editor Parmjeet Singh said, “This is a new type of mischief by the government where selective blocking of the website has been done, making it difficult to pinpoint the main culprits. Still, we will not take this lying down.”
Elaborating further he said, “Data analysis by the technical team of Sikh Siyasat team revealed that the website traffic to sikhsiyasat.net is being intercepted by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Punjab and India and is being blocked using ‘deep packet inspection’ enforcing ‘inline blocking’.”
To enable viewers to reassess the English section of the news website, Sikh Siyasat News -SSN has released an update to enable Apple users to go beyond the blocking and view the website. With the installation of the updated version from the Apple App store, the English section of the website – sikhsiyasat.net is reachable. As a result, the Sikh Siyasat’s online books shop in the Android App and Sikh Siyasat’s audiobooks services in both Android and iOS/iPhone App have been revived.
Speaking to the media, Parmjeet Singh said, “We are doing everything within the law of the land to counter this move of the government agencies forcing private ISPs to block our site.”
“I want to assure Sikh Siyasat readers who use the Android version that we will shortly be releasing an updated version and that our technical team is seized with this, he added.
