Police, Sikh Sangat clash after accused of Beadbi near Ramdas was identified in CCTV footage

Ramdas/ Ajnala: An incident of beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib took place at a Gurdwara Sahib in village Madu Shanga near Ramdas in Ajnala Tehsil of Amritsar district. The incident took place at Gurdwara Mansa Puran Sahib which is a joint Gurdwara Sahib for three villages namely, Madu Shanga, Talwandi Bhanwa and Kot Mugal. The beadbi was spotted by Granthi Bhupinder Singh last evening, when during the Rehras nitnem he observed that Guru Granth Sahib’s Angs from 729 to 741 were torn.

The accused of the beadi was identified as Ranjit Masih s/o Rehman Masih, r/o Talwandi Bhanwa with the help of CCTV footage.

A clash reportedly took place between the police and the local Sikh sangat after the later insisted on taking over the custody of the accused. The police party belonging to Ramdas police was able to take away the accused from the spot, however an SHO and ASI sustained some injuries in this clash. Later a large police party led by Amritsar SSP (Rural) Parmpal Singh, DSP (Rural) Harpal Singh, DSP (Ajnala) Ravinderpal Singh and other senior police officials reached the spot of incident.

As per reports the Ramdas police have booked Ranjit Masih u/s 295 of Indian Penal Code (FIR No. 70). The police have also booked Kulwinder Singh s/o Karnail Singh, Robin s/o Gurkirat Singh and around 20 to 25 more persons u/s 307, 363, 364, 379B, 353, 186, 332, 341, 238, 225, 148 and 149 of Indian Penal Code for clashing with the police.

A seven member committee is formed to oversee the investigations of the beadbi incident. This committee comprises Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, SGPC member Amik Singh, SP (D) Harpal Singh, Rajwant Singh, Malook Singh, Ajmer Singh, Tarlok Singh, Nishan Singh and Major Singh.
